Probably not an infection. Verify with your doctor that heat is the right treatment. There are certain medications that when infiltrated into the arm (even a little bit) should only be treated with heat OR cold. A cytotoxic agent maybe should not be treated with heat as it could further irritate/burn/degrade the vein and surrounding tissue. Have your doctor look it up.
I'm wondering why they didn't put in a port. Seems like you've had lots of problems with the IV. Perhaps Nurse Johanna knows. Hang in there. We're all out here praying:)
This was just the first IV that went bad, the second one they did on my left arm was perfect and is feeling great. I just think the first one slipped when I was sleeping on it or something after the first night.
